The Tour

Jason and Carlo join a tour. Jason says his folks are going to be angry that he didn’t get into Stanford. A charming and sinister tour guide leads the group to Rodin’s The Gates of Hell. In the course of his talk, he quotes “Abandon all hope, all ye who enter here”. Jason, intrigued, lags behind to inspect things more closely and is drawn to a particular sculpture that seems to call to him. He returns that night, drawn by his curiosity.

In the morning another tour comes by…the guide says, “It is said that whenever you see the gates of hell, you will notice something new”. Close up on part of the gates, revealing Jason has been added to it. Again, another straggler is left behind, entranced by the new addition.

Credits sequence: Pizza delivery boy brings pizza to gates of hell…tourguide jumps out, pays for it, jumps back in.

EXT, DAY Rodin Sculpture Garden

JASON
My folks are going to kill me when I tell them I
didn’t get into Stanford.
CARLO
There’s always next year, J. You got a tough break on
those test scores, but you’ll get in.

JASON
Nah, not me. I just got denied my appeal. I ain’t got
a hope in hell, man.

GUIDE
“Abandon every hope, ye who enter here!” Those are the
words of the Dante’s Shades, perched upon the
magnificent Gates of Hell, welcoming the hapless and
hopeless into the dark underworld below.”

CARLO
This dude’s a trip…

GUIDE
It is said that one must not gaze too long upon the
tortured faces of the gate, lest they beckon you to
join them in their everlasting suffering.

Jason takes an interest in the sculptures. We see the
forms and faces from his POV. He settles on one in
particular.

GUIDE
Now if you’ll follow me over here…

Jason is fixated on one face.

CARLO
Come on, everybody’s leaving. This place is weird.

JASON
Go on ahead, I’ll catch up to you.

.... to be continued tomorrow ....
